Last week Trustnet published a story titled Artemis tops list of large fund houses dominating their sectors, in which we endeavoured to show the fund groups that had produced the most top-quartile funds among their respective sectors over the past three years.
Regrettably, there was an issue with the data. Instead of this, the tables and accompanying article showed the number of top-quartile funds across the entire Investment Association (IA) universe, rather than their own peer groups.
This matters because the data benefited fund groups with more portfolios in better-performing sectors over three years such as IA India/Indian Subcontinent, IA North America and IA Global Equity Income, while hampering those with more funds in sectors that performed poorly such as IA UK Index Linked Gilts, IA China/Greater China and IA UK Smaller Companies.
Having re-run the data, Artemis remains top of the charts with 76% of funds in the top or second quartiles of their respective sectors. However, there were changes elsewhere in the tables.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. We have removed the story from Trustnet and will look to run the initial premise sometime in early 2025 when we can include data from 2024 in the findings.
Yours sincerely,
Jonathan Jones, Editor, Trustnet
