Square Mile Investment Consulting and Research has hired Scott Spencer as an investment director within its investment management team.

Spencer has 25 years of investment management experience and joins from Columbia Threadneedle’s multi-manager team, where he was responsible for fund research and portfolio construction in its multi-asset portfolios. He also designed and oversaw the team’s approach to environmental, social and governance (ESG) analysis.

In his new role, he will “play an integral role” in managing the Square Mile’s managed portfolio service and investment solutions on behalf of adviser clients, as well as delivering the firm’s wider investment propositions across all channels.

Mark Harries, chief investment officer at Square Mile, said: “We have always emphasised the importance of providing personalised investment propositions focussed on the needs of each adviser client that we partner with, rather than off-the-shelf solutions.

“Central to delivering this is the expertise of our investment team and we are committed to attracting talented individuals to further enhance our expertise. Scott is evidence of this commitment as an investment professional who has demonstrated considerable portfolio management and fund research acuity in a range of roles at prominent asset management houses.”

Spencer joined Columbia Threadneedle in 2021 as part of its acquisition of BMO GAM, where he worked since 2014. Prior to this, he was a portfolio manager at Credit Suisse Asset Management with responsibility for analysing and recommending equity and fixed income strategies to its fund-of-funds team.
