Janus Henderson Investors has launched its first active exchange-traded fund (ETF) in Europe. The Janus Henderson Tabula Japan High Conviction Equity UCITS ETF will invest in a concentrated portfolio of 20 to 30 Japanese companies and will be managed by Junichi Inoue, head of Japanese equities.

Inoue said: “We believe that now is the ideal time to invest in Japan, with a sustainable inflation outlook and corporate governance reform, businesses are becoming more shareholder-friendly and providing stronger investment opportunities.”

The fund will initially be listed on Germany’s Xetra with the ticker JCPN and will subsequently be listed on the London Stock Exchange and Borsa Italiana. It will have an ongoing charges figure of 0.49%.

The launch follows Janus Henderson’s acquisition of Tabula Investment Management, a European ETF specialist, earlier this year. It now plans to launch a series of active ETFs during the next 12 months in Europe.

Janus Henderson is already the fourth-largest provider of actively managed fixed-income ETFs in the US but the new Japanese equity strategy is its first offering for European investors.
